Salah's strike in the 80th minute put him in Liverpool's record books.

When Liverpool cleared a corner and the ball arrived at Mohamed Salah's feet 20 yards inside his own half at Southampton on Friday there was just one thing on the Egyptian's mind. Aside from that, the rest of their games are against teams from outside the top six, so it's pretty even but Liverpool have a slight advantage in only having one "elite" team to play.

Liverpool then upped the ante and further goals from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson gave them another win and propelled them back to the Premier League summit in the process.

"Hendo, from my point of view, is a brilliant player", Klopp said.

Southampton took an early lead through Shane Long nine minutes into the match at their St Mary's Stadium home, but Liverpool equalised nine minutes before the break when midfielder Naby Keita scored his first goal for the club.

Liverpool pushed hard for the go-ahead goal in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, but saw penalty shouts from Keita waved off before Roberto Firmino flashed a good chance wide from a Sadio Mane cut-back as the match passed the hour mark.

His precise role in that team will vary, Klopp said. "We have seen an outstanding level of performance from both teams this season".

Manchester City are and will be the dominant force in English football for years to come.

"We have 82 points now, that is massive in this insane league and everyone is waiting for us", Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp told Sky Sports.

'And he has dealt with that outstandingly well so he can be really proud. The most hard job in the last 500 years of football was to replace Steven Gerrard.
