Cristiano Ronaldo reflects on 'magical night' for Juventus

Juventus thought they had taken the lead less than three minutes into the game but VAR confirmed that Ronaldo had fouled Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak before Giorgio Chiellini fired in the rebound.

Juventus signed the five-time Ballon d'Or victor for 100 million euros ($117 million) last summer and pay him a 31 million euros annual salary.

"It was always going to be a special night and it was - not only for the goals but for the team", he added.

Ronaldo has scored 24 goals and assisted 12 strikes in 36 games for Juventus so far this season.

He has scored 124 goals in the Champions League, more than Atletico in the competition (118).

Juventus are looking to lift Europe's top trophy for the first time since 1996. "Juventus played very well, we have to congratulate them".

"Ronaldo? He's fantastic", Cancelo said. "Cristiano has given us that little bit extra".

Ronaldo inspired the Italians to a stunning fightback with two towering headers and a nerveless late penalty, which sealed a 3-0 win on the night after they lost the first leg 2-0 in Madrid.

Real Madrid, the three-time holders, showed they were sorely missing his presence when they were eliminated by Ajax Amsterdam, one of Juventus's possible quarter-final opponents. Yet, City coach Pep Guardiola thinks Juventus are title favorites. But the way it happened was demoralizing, with Simeone's team barely getting near Juventus' area and never having a realistic chance of withstanding the onslaught brought on by the hosts.

"That is the type of guy and teams you face to achieve the next stages. We have to put our heads down and try to understand how we can improve for the future".

The hat-trick is a big-time return on Juventus's investment in Ronaldo with qualification for the last eight reportedly worth 105 million euros ($118 million), compared to 90 million last season.

The victory also helped boost Juventus' share price on Wednesday morning.

Ronaldo, who one year ago scored a memorable bicycle kick goal for Real at Juve in a Champions League match and was applauded off the field by the home fans in Turin, had also begun to look stale in recent Serie A matches.

Portugal play Switzerland in the Nations Cup semi-finals on June 5, targeting a place in the finals which will be held in at home in Porto four days later.
