Users worldwide report Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram outages

Facebook and Instagram experienced an hourslong outage across the US on Wednesday, and throngs of social media-savvy citizens experienced an existential crisis. However, Facebook's outage happened less than 24 hours after Google's ecosystem went down for more than an hour yesterday.

About an hour after users started complaining about the outages, Facebook posted a short statement on Twitter that read, "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps". For a company as big as Facebook, downtime is normally never an issue, but it is interesting to see how quickly they're going to deal with this.

A representative for Facebook told PEOPLE they're still working "to resolve the issue".

It is showing outages in the United States, Europe, Japan, Manila, Australia and New Zealand.

Some users reflected on how the outage had exposed their reliance on the social media networks.
