Eagles agree to trade DE Michael Bennett to Patriots

Martellus Bennet helped the Patriots win Super Bowl LI.

The Patriots appear to be finalizing a deal to acquire Michael from the Philadelphia Eagles.

New England's inability to block Bennett was proven in the game itself, and Bennett showed his versatility to a ridiculous degree. According to a report from Jeff McClane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Bennett is on his way out of the City of Brotherly Love.

With that being said, it looks like Bennett's first year with the Eagles will end up being his only one after the team announced on Friday their plans to send the veteran to the New England Patriots.

"I'm not willing to take a pay cut", Bennett said.

Whether the decision to move Bennett was the right one can be debated. In 2018, having turned 33 in November, Bennett amassed 12 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and 44 quarterback hurries.

The trade news comes after the Patriots opted not to place their franchise tag on free agent defensive end Trey Flowers. Ansah's career has had plenty of ups-and-downs, as he has twice notched double-digit sacks - but those two seasons have been sandwiched by a year with two sacks and another with just four.

Tit for tat should be the motto here, and just because the frugal Patriots didn't want to pay the 23-year-old pass rusher, doesn't mean Howie Roseman won't. Still, Some feel that Bennett could still contribute enough on defense to warrant a bigger contract and shipping him to the Super Bowl champs has caused an uproar with many fans.

Terms of the deal are not yet known. Flowers had arguably his best season in the National Football League last season, finishing with 64 total quarterback pressures, good for 10th best among all edge rushers.
