Kevin Feige Explains Why Captain Marvel Wasn’t Paged Until ‘Infinity War’

In an exclusive interview, Brie Larson opened up about her prep for slipping into the skin of Captain Marvel, her relationship with Samuel L Jackson and how she tried really hard to not give away any spoilers.

During an interview with SlashFilm, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked why Nick Fury didn't use the pager until that moment, and not during previous events such as the battle for NY in Marvel's The Avengers or the attack on Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron. I said she could time-travel one time. One, she does say it's gotta be a real emergency, right? Yeah", Feige said. "The other thing I'd say is how do you know he never hit it? We know who she is, what Nick Fury means to her, and how he got that beeper. Through Vers' memories, we see that she was once an Air Force pilot, although she is initially unable to recall specific details of her time on earth.

Think about it when people automatically start pitting Captain Marvel against Wonder Woman, simply because they're the only two big superhero films that have featured a woman... against an infinity of male-centric stories. Before taking on the title Captain Marvel, Carol used several different aliases, including Binary, Warbird, and her original moniker, Ms. Marvel (currently being used by Kamala Khan). It sets up a sequel that seems more than likely to take place in the past once again, leaving opportunity for Carol to return to Earth at some point on her journey into space. In the 90s, Captain Marvel then sees Project Pegasus created to build a light-speed engine but it is shut down when Mar-vell (Lawson) dies, with the Tesseract then reclaimed by Fury and back with SHIELD.

Annette Bening spoke to HollywoodLife about starring in her first Marvel film, and it's safe to say, the iconic actress had the best experience! Perhaps Captain Marvel's charisma will magically appear when she meets the rest of the Avengers. "These are super strong characters that are smart and conscientious and care about friendships and, you know, use their brains".

Kevin Feige: Well, I'd say two things. "I'm kind of over the 'First female blah blah blah, ' and 'Wow, maybe women can actually do the same things that dudes can do - what a insane concept!' I feel like the more we talk about it, the more we perpetuate the myth that it's an impossible task". That was just wrong. It's during this chunk of the film that eventually, as many cats are known to do, Goose scratches Nick Fury, who has shown him nothing but love for the whole movie. Like, I envisioned him at 127 - that I would want something sort of touching and rousing up front, as opposed to sort of depressing at the end.

Peter: I have my nitpicky question I gotta ask you.

Captain Marvel is in theaters now.
