LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers and Carmelo Anthony #7 of the Houston Rockets wait for an inbound at Staples Center on October 20, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

After James barrelled to the basket and hit a layup while being fouled for his milestone points, the Staples Center crowd gave a rousing ovation to the superstar who joined the Lakers last summer after 15 National Basketball Association seasons spent with Cleveland and Miami.

Anthony, 34, spent the entire 2017-18 season with the Thunder after being traded by the Knicks for Enes Kanter, forward Doug McDermott and Chicago's 2018 second-round draft pick.

A few days earlier, James appeared in his 15th All-Star Game. Said the jubilant James.

"To see where he is now is remarkable", said Denver coach Michael Malone, an assistant coach with the Cavs from 2005-10. "I know that LeBron James is arguably one of the greatest ever to lace them up, and this is a great accomplishment in his career". He's averaging 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.0 assists this season. For Kuzma, it was the start of what could be a week-long absence as he recovers from a sprained ankle.

James was asked if the Lakers' loss dampened his accomplishment. LeBron hasn't missed the playoffs since the 2004-2005 season, but seems resigned to his fate this year.

Rajon Rondo decided during Wednesday night's Los Angels Lakers loss to the Denver Nuggets that he didn't want to sit with his teammates on the bench, perhaps a sign that he and the rest of the team have given up on this frustrating season.
