How to activate the hidden dark mode on Facebook Messenger

After recent news of Facebook Messenger's hidden dark mode on iOS and Android, the social network has officially announced the feature is now rolling out to all users.

If you think just any old moon emoji would work, however, you'd be wrong; it's the specific, faceless crescent moon seen in the images above (I feel like the dark moon might have been more appropriate but I'll get over it).

However, it looks like Facebook embedded an Easter Egg inside the Messenger app which allows users to get access to dark mode immediately.

All you need to do is open up the app (obviously) and send a moon emoji on a chat.

Probes into the Facebook Messenger app had already revealed that Facebook was working on darker hues, and it even rolled out to small number of users in the latter part of previous year - but not everyone.

This will unlock the secret setting, and prompt you to turn it on.

Now give it a moment and you should see a pop-up on the top of the app saying that you have found dark mode.

Facebook is now giving users a 10-minute window to delete messages after they've been sent.

Tap "Try It in settings" and it should bring you to your Messenger profile. The feature would help users avoid certain targeted ads on the Facebook platform, but it never ...

Photos, videos, and links can be unsent in this way, too.

The initial move came seven months after it was reported that Facebook was deleting messages already sent by CEO Mark Zuckerberg to other users. As the beans were spilled on the internet, it was time to finally explain the feature.
