House Judiciary Committee Chairman: It’s ‘very clear’ Trump committed obstruction of justice

Over 60 entities and individuals with close ties to President Donald Trump and his businesses will get document requests from the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, panel Chairman Rep.

United States lawmakers will demand documents from Donald Trump's eldest son and a lifelong business associate as part of a wide-ranging investigation into alleged abuses of office by the president, a leading Democrat said Sunday.

Referring to recent comments from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein - who said recently, "If we aren't prepared to prove our case beyond a reasonable doubt in court, then we have no business making allegations against American citizens" - Nadler referenced the DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel opinion that sitting presidents can't be indicted.

The congressman said the American public has to be persuaded that impeachment is a necessary course to take, and Trump voters have to be made aware that Democrats are not trying to reverse the results of the 2016 election.

Nonetheless, Democrats intend to use the report released from that investigation - led by special counsel Robert Mueller - as a starting point for their own probe of the forty-fifth president. "It's very clear that the president obstructed justice", he continued.

The justice department head also noted attempts by the USA president to intimidate witnesses in the course of the investigation, according to The Independent. "But this investigation goes far beyond collusion", he said.

"I am an innocent man being persecuted by some very bad, conflicted & corrupt people in a Witch Hunt that is illegal & should never have been allowed to start", he tweeted.

Also last week, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D, asked his staff to begin preparing a request for Trump's past tax returns to be submitted to the Treasury Department in the coming weeks.

"We shouldn't be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn't avoid impeachment for a political reason", Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat who represents California, told NBC News in January.

"Yeah, it is a high bar", Mr. Nadler said.

Testimony by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen last week directly implicated Trump in various crimes including campaign finance violations, Nadler said. "But we're going to initiate proper investigations", he said.

Several Democratic representatives have called for impeaching Trump, even introducing articles of impeachment on multiple occasions.

Allen Weisselberg is the chief financial officer of The Trump Organization and, along with Donald Trump, Jr., one of the two trustees of the company.

They threatened to impeach people in the Justice Department.

"That was a deal that stood to make him more money than any other deal in his life and it was a deal where he was pursuing help from the Kremlin, from (Russian President Vladimir) Putin himself, at a time when Putin was seeking relief from sanctions", Schiff told CBS' "Face the Nation".
