Weekend storm expected to bring snow to New York City area

Weekend storm expected to bring snow to New York City area

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. "I'm confident you'll see a mix of rain and snow initially". We hold on to some snow chances throughout the rest of the week and start to rebound temperatures towards next weekend. The fast-moving storm is expected to move across the Great Plains and Midwest overnight, where temperatures in the storm's path are expected to plummet.

12 a.m.to 3 a.m. Monday: Precipitation rapidly tapers off from southwest to northeast.

So far this winter, we've been kind of lucky with most of the storms only producing light snowfall.

The exact track and timing of the storm will determine snowfall totals, but Long Island is now expected to see 3-6 inches across much of Nassau and Suffolk. Stay tuned for updates about Storm #2 which will arrive Sunday night and continue into Monday morning. The sun this time of the year is quite strong so you'll likely notice some melting on the roadways this afternoon as well as during the day tomorrow.

- A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect from 7 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday for areas of New York, New Jersey and CT. A snow, changing to freezing rain, sleet and rain a likely scenario for storm #2. After our stormy weather pattern ends, it's really cold for much of next week with highs in the 20s and lows in the single digits.

Monday: More snow early, perhaps changing to a mixed bag before ending.

The "in like a lion, out like a lamb" proverb will come into play Sunday, however, with the lion seemingly ready to roar. Temperatures 30 to 35 degrees (northwest to southeast). The record for March 2 is 5 inches, set in 1912.

The cold front moves through our area Tuesday night and dries & clears us out and significantly drops our temperatures.
