Veteran Musician Andre Previn Dies At 89

Mia Farrow and Stephen Fry have led the tributes to Oscar-winning composer Andre Previn following his death at the age of 89.

The Berlin native died on Thursday (February 28) at his home in NY, his manager confirmed.

An accomplished jazz pianist, he began working at MGM in 1946 while still in high school, launching an illustrious career in film composing that won him four Academy Awards for his work on films, including 1964's My Fair Lady.

Previn holds the Oscar record for most music nominations in one year: In 1961, he scored Elmer Gantry and Bells Are Ringing, and also was nominated for the song "Faraway Part of Town" from the film Pepe.

His vast impact on music was recognized in 2010 when he was honored with a lifetime achievement award.

When he arrived in Los Angeles, an uncle was providing music to Universal Studios. He also wrote the score for Tom Stoppard's 1977 play, EVERY GOOD BOY DESERVES FAVOUR, which was performed for eight performances with full orchestra at the Metropolitan Opera House in July and August 1979.

The famed musician won his first Grammy Award in 1958 for best soundtrack album, dramatic picture score or original cast for Gigi. He will be remembered for his extraordinary contribution to classical music, pop, jazz, and as a composer for Hollywood productions. Soon-Yi is married to Woody Allen.

In 2005 he was awarded the worldwide Glenn Gould Prize and in 2008 won Gramophone magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in classical, film, and jazz music.

Last night, she tweeted: 'See you in the Morning beloved Friend.

Previn's third wife and mother of three of his children, actress Mia Farrow, posted a goodbye message to the legendary musician on Twitter. He also had success in musical theater and his Broadway show "Coco" was nominated for a Tony Award as best musical in 1970.

Previn was conceived in Berlin, as Andreas Ludwig Prewin, yet his Jewish guardians carefully left their home in 1938 deserting everything - everything, reviews Previn - that they possessed.

His final marriage was to Anne Sophie-Mutter, a concert violinist who was 39 to his 72.
