Grizzlies Cleaning Out Marc Gasol's Locker Ahead of Expected Trade

Friday, beleaguered general manager Chris Wallace met the media, explaining the moves the Grizzlies made at Thursday's deadline, sending Gasol to Toronto, shipping out three other players for guys with upside and financial and roster flexibility, and moving forward.

Lowry is now by far the longest-serving member of the Toronto Raptors following the trade of Jonas Valanciunas to Memphis on Thursday, and Toronto's president admitted Lowry was aware of trade rumours.

The deal is interesting as it provides not only depth across the roster but also provides the Grizzlies a solid guard in Wright who could even see additional minutes if Conley is dealt. It seems like Memphis is already preparing for life after Marc, as his locker is already starting to be cleaned out and his No. 33 has been removed above it.

In a separate deal, the Raptors traded veteran center Greg Monroe and a 2021 second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for cash considerations. That Raptors team was swept by Cleveland in the second round of the playoffs. He is the Grizzlies' franchise leader in points, rebounds, blocks and field goals made.

Though he's now in the twilight of his career, the three-time All-Star is having a nice season in Memphis, averaging 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.

The six-time All-Star was on the court for the first time since making a trade request almost two weeks ago.

Pera praised Gasol as a pillar of the Grizzlies for 11 seasons and part of the core that shaped the franchise's identity on and off the court. Valanciunas and Miles have player options, and Wright will become a restricted free agent.

The 26-year-old Wright, who was selected by Toronto in the first round of the 2015 draft, is averaging 6.9 points, 2.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 18.3 minutes of action per game this season.

Miles is averaging 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in 40 contests this year.
