Women in white: Democrat solidarity stands out at State of the Union

As President Trump gave his third State of the Union on Tuesday night, women of the Democratic Party united in white as a rebuttal to POTUS and the Republicans, who opted for all-black attire. And this isn't the first time that Trump has been met with a sea of white: In 2017, a collection of female Democrats synchronized their outfits for his joint address to Congress to raise awareness around reproductive rights and equal pay, among other women's issues.

Pelosi's daughter, Christine, reacting on Twitter Wednesday morning, described what she saw in that closed-mouth smile and pointed clap: "oh yes that clap took me back to the teen years". And afterward in another private meeting, Pelosi said Trump's demand for a southern border wall is a "manhood thing" - a comment immediately leaked to the media.

What we do know is that her white Roland Mouret ensemble fully stood out from the darker hues on her side of the room.

The speech began with a call for bipartisanship, with the president saying he was "ready to work with you to achieve historic breakthroughs for all Americans".

The moment signaled Pelosi's example to the Democrats she leads.

"That's great", Trump said. Republicans jumped to their feet and chanted, "U-S-A!"

Trump recounted that a century after the Congress passed the Constitutional amendment "giving women the right to vote, we also have more women serving in the Congress than ever before".
