WhatsApp launches biometrics lock for iPhone

The latest update brings support for locking and unlocking the app through Face ID & Touch ID.

If you were anxious about others accessing your WhatsApp activity, especially on devices that you might share with children or friends, then all you have to do to secure those chats is to update the WhatsApp to the newest version. To activate the new feature, click Settings Account Privacy and enable Screen Lock. You can also select how quickly the app will lock itself after being closed. Users are now able to restrict access to the app as a means of protecting private conversations with the help of FaceID or TouchID. It is still a feature that is exclusive to the iOS version of the app, but there are rumblings of an Android equivalent arriving sometime in the near future.

iPhone users can still preview the messages from WhatsApp notifications and even quick reply but full functionalities will be available after the authentication. So you'll need actual access to the device to open the chats.

Such a feature was previously available on Android and iPhone devices and allows such content to be consumed in a separate window, meaning WhatsApp fans are able to continue their chats at the same time.

Though iPhones are already protected with biometric authentication, it's a nice security touch that Facebook is adding biometric authentication directly to the WhatsApp app too. The option to enable Screen Lock can be found under the Privacy section.
