Trump suggests he could declare emergency

Trump, in an interview with CBS News, called Pelosi "very rigid" and said she was trying to "win a political point" by opposing his demands to fund the wall.

"I think there's a good chance that we'll have to do that", Trump added, referring to the possibility of an emergency.

"She's costing the country hundreds of billions of dollars because what's happening is when you have a porous border, and when you have drugs pouring in, and when you have people dying all over the country because of people like Nancy Pelosi who don't want to give proper border security for political reasons, she's doing a bad disservice to our country", he said. "I don't think Democrats want border security".

"She is doing a awful disservice to our country", the United States president said.

The Republican president also said there is a "good chance" he will follow through on his previous threats to bypass the US Congress and declare a national emergency to obtain funding for a wall.

According to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D., Calif., President Trump is "forcing American taxpayers to waste billions of dollars on an expensive and ineffective wall". The president - in open warfare with opposition Democrats, as well as railing nearly daily against prosecutors looking at allegations that he colluded with Russian Federation in his 2016 election - will take the high ground, the official said.

With only some barriers being rebuilt or repaired, Trump's comments fly in the face of critics' claims that he's failed to deliver on his promised wall. House Democrats' new spending plans, unveiled this week, zeroed out money for border wall construction. The official said he was instructed not to say whether any other specific countries would be mentioned.

The president says that existing sections of walls should be extended along the border to stop what he describes as an uncontrolled invasion of criminals. "It's like in a business, we have money on hand, and we're building, I would say we have a hundred and fifteen miles of wall, maybe a little bit more than that very shortly".

Without giving details, Trump tweeted Thursday: "More troops being sent to the Southern Border to stop the attempted Invasion of Illegals, through large caravans, into our Country. We're building the wall", he said.

Meanwhile, Pelosi's office accused Trump of making reckless remarks.

Trump, addressing reporters at the White House, said: "Nancy Pelosi is doing a very, very great disservice to our country".

"On the 15th we have now set the table beautifully because everybody knows what's going on because of the shutdown", Trump said.

"It's very hard to do human trafficking through ports of entry because you have people standing there saying hey what's going on in the backseat, what's going on in the trunk".
