China trade talks 'going well'

That dispute was put on hold for 90 days starting December 1 after U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met and agreed to halt additional tariffs as both sides ironed out their trade differences.

"China's top trade negotiators are in the USA meeting with our representatives".

Citing Trump's flurry of statements over the course of Thursday that negotiations were going well and that he was open to visiting Xi for another round of talks, Brilliant said it was "very clear that President Trump is very engaged in these talks".

The U.S. and China - the world's largest economies - engaged in a bitter tariff fight past year over a number of issues including the their bilateral trade imbalance, alleged intellectual property theft by Chinese firms and Beijing's industrial subsidies that put American firms at a disadvantage.

"I'd like to accommodate China if we can get the deal done".

He said that all of the many problems were being discussed and will be hopefully resolved.

Trump has set a March 1 deadline for increasing tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent.

But Trump's tweets Thursday were the clearest articulation he has given so far of his desire for a deal to resolve his trade war with China.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell told reporters on Wednesday that prolonged trade talks with China could hurt the USA economy by damping business confidence.

There has been little outward indication of friction in the talks in Washington caused by USA criminal charges on Monday against Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and its chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, accusing them of conspiring to violate US sanctions on Iran.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump, a self-described "Tariff Man", rejected a previous proposal from Beijing to resolve the dispute with increased purchases of USA goods.

There is widespread scepticism that the two sides can reach a substantive deal by the 1 March deadline.

However, his outspoken comments in previous meetings and reports that he sparred with other United States officials, caused him to be left on the sidelines of some talks.

People's Bank of China Governor Yi Gang declined comment on Chinese proposals as he left the delegation's hotel for the meetings in Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next to the White House.

The Chinese trade delegation began two days of negotiations with USA counterparts Wednesday.

The US imposed tariffs on $250bn worth of Chinese goods previous year. "What are they going to put on the table?"

The report also said that the law could help attract more foreign investment to China, protect foreign investors' legal rights and interests, and provide a favorable business environment.

Chinese officials have said their policies do not coerce technology transfers.

On Wednesday, US intelligence officials told Congress that China is the biggest commercial and military threat to the United States.

"The scope of these talks will be the broadest and deepest in U.S". USA officials have denied any link between the trade talks and the Huawei case.
