She came out and held, broke Wozniacki for a 5-4 lead and then served out the match on her first match point.

The 18-year-old Andreescu, who is ranked 152nd in the world and had to go through qualifying to make the tournament, defeated top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki in the second round.

"What's really important for me is to stay in the present moment and I've been doing that all week and I'm beyond grateful right now".

If she's proven anything this week, the Mississauga, Ont., native has shown that she has been able to deal with each challenge as it comes.

Goerges ousted Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., earlier in the week on her way back to the championship match.

Rain meant no matches were completed at the Shenzhen Open, with Veronika Kudermetova a set up against Vera Zvonareva and Sorana Cirstea 2-0 ahead in the first set of her clash with Alison Riske before play was suspended.

"My goal was only to qualify and maybe get a couple of rounds in but now I've beaten a couple of top players", Andreescu said.

Ranked No. 152 in the world, Andreescu beat the third-ranked and former world No. 1 Carolina Wozniacki on Thursday before taking out No. 38 Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion and a former world No. 1.

Sharapova received off-court medical treatment between the two sets.

Still just 20, Kuzmova began to steady herself at the start of the second.

But with the next point she ripped a victor and on her third matchpoint Kuzmova cracked a return straight into the net.

Andreescu has one more match to play in Auckland. "I was still aggressive, but not aggressive as much as I wanted to be".

"It is disappointing, I was one game away from winning the match, so I'll probably be thinking about this for the next couple of days", said Andreescu, who earned entry into the tournament as a qualifier.

"This meant a lot", Goerges said.

"This week I've been playing a lot of different types of game styles".
