Two Vietnamese Tourists Killed in Greater Cairo Bus Attack

Egypt's Interior Ministry announced on Saturday that it had killed 40 terrorists in a raid on three hideouts in Egypt's Giza and North Sinai governorate, a statement by the interior ministry read.

Police found a large number of weapons and ammunition as well as bomb-making materials at the raid sites, the statement said.

"Information was received by the national security that a group of terrorists were planning to carry out a series of aggressive attacks targeting state institutions, particularly economic ones, as well as tourism, armed forces, police and Christian places of worship", the statement said.

A roadside bomb hidden in a wall exploded as the bus carrying 14 Vietnamese tourists went by.

A terrorist attack took the lives of two people and injured a dozen more in Egypt Friday; targeting a tourist bus as it made its way towards the country's world-famous ancient pyramids.

Without advising authorities, the bus deviated from the route established by the interior ministry for vehicles bringing visitors to Giza, Madbuli said.

Madbouly said that terrorism is a real threat to the entire world; however it's important to control it by taking all needed security measures.

It occurred as Egypt's vital tourism industry is showing signs of recovery after years because of the political turmoil and violence that followed a 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Hosni Mubarak.

Vietnam condemned the attack, and called on Egypt to find those responsible.

In 2015, ISIS claimed responsibility for a blast that downed a Russian airliner and killed all 224 people aboard shortly after it took off from the Egyptian holiday resort of Sharm El Sheikh.

However, the sector has since recovered and 8.3 million people visited in 2017, the Financial Times reports.

Another 10 suspected miltants were killed in North Sinai, where the country is fighting an insurgency led by Islamic State.
