XFL commissioner Oliver Luck has announced the eight cities that will host teams for the rebooted league in 2020.

World Wrestling Entertainment founder and Chairman McMahon has come up with a different game plan than the one employed by his first football league that mixed the sport with aspects of his wrestling empire. The league lasted just one season.

Luck said more than 30 cities expressed interest in hosting XFL teams. He stressed a shorter play clock and a modified officiating protocol.

It did not give details on how the league will be different than the NFL but said research is underway. It is easy at this point to wave off the XFL as the wild idea of a rich man, especially when it keeps talking about innovations without actually saying what they are, but it aims to employ a lot of football players. Or, as you may have heard us say, less stall and more ball. He wants a crisp game that takes less than three hours.

Whatever the answers to those questions might prove to be, there's a more important one for football fans on this side of the border: what does all of this mean for the Canadian Football League?

Luck said they want the XFL to be affordable for families and they are working on lower ticket prices.

At Wednesday's press conference, Luck said the XFL will test for PEDs.

Luck says they will look for the best coaches and players available and majority will have college and National Football League experience.

"We're truly excited to have the XFL here in 2020".

They are a proponent of legal and safe gambling on the game. Team names will be assigned in 2019.

Individual tickets are not on sale, but anyone interested in being an XFL fan can sign-up to be a season ticket holder on the XFL site.
