President Donald Trump said a second summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un will likely take place in January or February.

The former South Korean foreign minister said on Monday "this is the time" to achieve Pyongyang's denuclearization after almost a quarter century of unsuccessful efforts, adding that the North and the world should not lose this opportunity. "I'd like to really advise the North Korean leader that the world is ready" to help his country, Ban told AP, specifically citing South Korea, the US, China, Japan and Russian Federation. He said, "We are getting along very well".

Mr Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on his return from the G-20 gathering in Argentina that he thinks the meeting will be in early 2019.

Last month, a planned meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and North Korean official Kim Yong Chol to discuss details of a potential second summit was called off.

In that historic summit, Trump and Kim opened up dialogue on the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula after trading military threats for months.

Mr Moon, who is hoping to host Mr Kim soon on the first ever trip to Seoul by a North Korean leader, said Mr Trump had asked him to pass on a message.

Pence has also said it was essential that global sanctions pressure be maintained on North Korea until its complete denuclearisation was achieved.

"The crisis is still continuing because of North Korea's development of nuclear, missile and weapons program and materials", Ban said.

A United States thinktank said in November it had identified at least 13 of an estimated 20 active undeclared missile bases inside North Korea, underscoring the challenge for American negotiators hoping to persuade Kim to give up his weapons programmes.

To improve long-strained relation between the South and North Korea, they both have started their mission by removing landmines and also destroying military bunkers at their border. The South Koreans have expressed hope the visit - which would be a first for a North Korean leader - could happen by the end of this year.

However, after hosting their third summit meeting with Moon in Pyongyang in September, Kim has agreed to visit Seoul.

Trump said they had discussed three sites for the summit but had not decided anything, adding that he was open to receiving Kim in the U.S. at some point, reports Efe news.
