However, the movie, which was tipped to beat the box-office records of Director SS Rajamouli's monumental epic Baahubali-2 The Conclusion released in 2017, fell way short of the period film's first-day gross collection of approximately ₹155 crore. The sci-fi witnessed audiences flocking into theatres on Saturday and enjoying every minute of Rajinikanth aka Chitti's world and his battle with the evil Dr Richard (Akshay Kumar). Being a Saturday, the movie is expected to have done an unbelievable business with higher collections.

The film also features Amy Jackson as Nila, a humanoid robot who works as an assistant to Vaseegaran.

Recently, at the trailer launch of 2.0, Shankar revealed how 3.0 is already planned.

The film is being shot simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi respectively. Directed by Shankar and co-written with B. Jeyamohan, the film had on opening day earned Rs 20.25 crore at the Indian box office. Thursday 20.25 cr, Friday 18 cr, Sat 25 cr. This is also the first time the actor will be seen playing a negative role in films. The film is anyways making money in the South languages and if Hindi version supports well too then recovery of the huge budget won't be an issue. Being a Tamil film predominantly, 2.0 is doing great business at the box office in the North belt as well. Reportedly, "2.0" happens to be the most expensive Indian film being made to date.

Further, the S.Shankar directed film made around Rs 18.57 crore from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and crossed the $1-million mark in the United States and UAE-GCC.
