Wishes pour out from all over India after Mary Kom’s historic win

India's boxing legend MC Mary Kom bagged her sixth gold medal at the Women's World Boxing Championship by defeating Ukraine's Hanna Okhota in the 48kg light flyweight.

While Sonia seemed anxious at the big stage, 35-year-old Mary Kom looked in flawless shape through the 48 kg light flyweight summit clash.

M.C. Mary Kom's latest victory, which has led her to become the first woman boxer to claim six World Championship gold medals, is a testimony to women power and an example of how age and motherhood have not stopped her from chasing her dreams, said Indian film fraternity members, hailing the "magnificent" athlete's feat.

"#MaryKom you rule! First woman boxer to win 6 world championships", tweeted Ayushmann Khurrana. Suffice to say, there is no question that she will be a role model for all time to come. The class and experience was on full display as she outboxed her Ukrainian rival with five judges giving all three rounds to the Indian. Because of your love and support, I feel I will be able to qualify for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. "I am a little bit emotional".

However, Mary distinctly remembered that she had won five on the trot. Four years ago I was not able to qualify.

"I want to thank the fans who turned up today to cheer me and the Indian contingent", Kom said.

Sonia Chahal surprised one and all as she on to win the silver medal in the 57 kg weight category at the World Championships.

The first round of the match was a close contest but by midway into the second round, Mary Kom was all over her opponent with powerful hooks with her right hand accompanied by quick jabs from her left. Then Mary managed to land some punches on her opponent. Taking it to Twitter, the boxer wrote, "I have fulfilled my duty".

It is a tribute to the 35-year-old's ability to keep the fire in her belly raging for so long - through marriage, child-birth and a bitter rivalry with Pinky Rani Jangra.

"I did my best but it was not enough".

"I will analyse my weaknesses and work hard for the 2020 Olympics".
