Russian Jet Intercepts U.S. Navy Plane Over Black Sea

The Su-27 fighter passed ahead of the US Navy EP-3 Aries, which was taking part in a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation military exercise above the Black Sea on Monday.

A Russian fighter jet came close to a US reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea Monday, causing turbulence and vibrations for the crew.

A statement by the US Navy said the crew of the EP-3 reported turbulence following the first interaction, and vibrations from the second.

As noted in the U.S. Navy, EP-3 Aries acted in accordance with worldwide law and did not provoke such Russian activities. He added that there was no communication between the two aircraft during the 25-minute ordeal.

It called the Russian SU-27 aircraft's interaction with its EP-3 Aries "irresponsible" and "unsafe" due to the "high speed pass".

The U.S. command complained in a statement about the low-level flight made by the SU-27, during its follow-up maneuver to the U.S. exploration aircraft, whose presence in that region is rejected by the Russian government. "We expect them to behave within worldwide standards set to ensure safety and to prevent incidents ... unsafe actions‎ increase the risk of miscalculation and potential for midair collisions".

The navy released a video showing the Su-27 turn sharply in front of the surveillance plane with its engines firing.

In turn, Russian Federation has denied the statement of the us authorities that the maneuver was carried out "unsafe".

Press Secretary of the Pentagon, Eric Pachon, said that "there is absolutely no justification for such conduct" on the part of another state, because "the US aircraft operated in accordance with worldwide law and "not provoked" side to such actions".

"The SU-27 jet's crew reported identifying the #US EP-3 Aries spy plane and accompanied it, preventing a violation of Russian airspace and followed all necessary safety procedures", the tweet said.

United States airplane EP-3E Aries, which was flying in the global airspace over the Black Sea, was intercepted by the Russian Su-27.
