Amazon to Split HQ2 Between Crystal City, VA and NYC?

Amazon had said it would announce the location of its new headquarters before the end of 2018, leading to a wave of speculation about which city the company would pick. The paper was also told that Amazon would be able to use a pair of buildings to host "several hundred employees" within nine months if the city is chosen.

Amazon could announce its decision as early as this week, and prime contenders still in the running were reported to include Dallas, New York, and a city in the state of Virginia not far from Washington, DC.

The Wall Street Journal reports that New York City is one of three municipalities in the late stages of discussion with Amazon about the two-city plan, along with Dallas and Crystal City, Virginia.

Discussions for Crystal City were more in-depth than in other cities in Northern Virginia and other locations, including NY and Dallas, the Post reported.

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday talks are still active in 20 cities, including Denver, Toronto, Atlanta, Nashville, Tenn., and Raleigh, N.C.

Amazon estimates HQ2 will bring more than $5 billion in construction investments and as many as 50,000 jobs to the city amidst decades of ongoing investment in the surrounding community. Shortly after the Post published its story, Mike Grella, Amazon's economic development director posted on Twitter, "Memo to the genius leaking info about Crystal City, VA as #HQ2 selection".

Crystal City is served by a mass transit system and major highways, both qualifications that Amazon has said is required for its new headquarters as well.
