Winning Numbers in 1.6 Billion Dollar Mega Millions Jackpot Announced

The winning numbers have been drawn for the record $1.6 billion Mega Millions lottery jackpot, but it isn't immediately clear if there's a victor.

The jackpot has gotten larger since the October 19 drawing, when the prize was a near-record $900 million and no winning numbers were drawn.

The biggest quirk starts with this fact: The advertised $1.6 billion Mega Millions prize - the world's largest ever lottery jackpot - and $620 million Powerball prize aren't quite real. That jackpot was a paltry, by comparison, $543 million payday for 11 members of a California office pool.

With the Mega Millions jackpot projected to be $1.6 billion, lottery fever is sweeping the nation with hundreds of tickets being printed every second in some states.

That prize was shared amongst multiple people, and that could happen once more with the Mega Millions $1.6 million jackpot or the 2 billion jackpot if no one wins this time.

Tuesday was no different, many waited in line to purchase one or many.

Tickets can be bought until 7:45 p.m. Tuesday before the drawing at 8 p.m. If no victor is selected in Tuesday's drawing, the jackpot will increase to $2 billion for Friday's drawing. But raising the number of Mega Balls makes it harder to win the jackpot. When so many people rush to play as a jackpot soars, the chances increase that two or three tickets - of the millions of tickets sold - will match.

On average, that's $206.69 per person.

"I never play, but we just kind of figured 'why not?'" Kagan added, noting that if she wins, she said that she would buy a school and build some homeless shelters. She took the lump sum, which came to $423,012 after state and federal tax withholdings, the lottery news release said.

She said she'd first use the prize money to pay off her debt and save for her children's college tuition.
