Netflix To Cancel "Orange Is The New Black" After Season 7

The critically-acclaimed dramedy initially followed the inmates of Litchfield Minimum Security Prison, with Season 6 seeing numerous main cast move to the Maximum Security facility often mentioned in the series.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the 2019 final season.

Reflecting on the series' conclusion, Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content Netflix, said, "During production of Season 1, everyone involved with Orange Is The New Black felt like we knew a special secret we couldn't wait to share with the world".

Orange Is the New Black is quickly approaching the end of the line, and the cast is pretty emotional about it.

Actresses Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox and Danielle Brooks, executive producer Jenji Kohan and actresses Taylor Schilling, Kate Mulgrew and Selenis Leyva arrive at the Netflix "Orange Is The New Black" For Your Consideration Screening and Q&A at the Director's Guild Of America on May 20, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. Even hardcore followers of the series (like my wife) have said that the last two seasons have dropped off in terms of quality.

Uzo Aduba who plays Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren said: "Season seven, you will not be disappointed".

"We're going to give you everything and more than you could have ever wanted".

The news of the series coming to an end is not a total surprise as many cast members had speculated that the show would end with season 7.

Orange is the New Black premiered in 2013, with new seasons airing on a yearly basis.

"I'm going to miss the hell out of this TV show", Natasha Lyonne, who played Nicky Nichols, added.
