The trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix is finally here!

Following on the tail of its ominous predecessor, Apocalypse, the Dark Phoenix trailer also promises end of the world antics.

Things then took a turn for the worse for the Fox Studios movie when one Marvel fan took to Reddit to set the record straight after various conflicting reports. In the new trailer, we witness the X-Men travel to space and come into contact with the Phoenix force. Jessica Chastain is the new addition who may or may not be playing a villain.

British actress Sophie Turner reprises her role as Jean Grey from 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, and unveiled the trailer on James Corden's The Late, Late Show on Wednesday.

And they're always grim, right?

From the Dark Phoenix official synopsis: In the movie, "the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey". Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. And definitely more of a bigger X-Men movie than something small and focused, but perhaps they felt it was necessary to connect with audiences of all kinds. It was previously revealed that the film has a "major twist" halfway through that changes the course of the franchise, and both the previously released images and this trailer show a funeral for a beloved character.

"I always look to the comics obviously as the touchstones for the movies, and as you know and all fans know there is a lot of cosmic, extraterrestrial stories in the X-Men lore", Kinberg said. We also get quick glimpses of Grey's many other X-Men comrades, including Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Grey's eventual paramour, Cyclops (Tye Sheridan). Dark Phoenix was slated to touch down this Fall, but massive reshoots to the third act pushed it back to February.
