First debate between Cruz and O'Rourke

The conservative US senator from Texas is being outpaced and overshadowed by his progressive challenger, Beto O'Rourke, who is pushing to be the first Democrat in Texas to be elected to the Senate in 30 years. A strong showing Friday night at Southern Methodist University would turn more heads.

Recent polls show that the race between Cruz and O'Rourke is relatively close for Texas, which has not sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1992. One poll by Quinnipac University this week, however, found Cruz ahead by 9 points. "This is your trick and the trade". And yes, there should be an earned path to citizenship.

With that reply, O'Rourke revealed that Cruz had missed a deeper point within the question.

Each candidate displayed the sort of strengths that have earned them the praise or enmity of the opposing camp. Trump is expected to appear at a rally in Texas with Cruz next month. A Reuters/Ipsos poll, meanwhile, actually gives Congressman O'Rourke a two-point lead over Cruz, the first poll showing Cruz trailing even within the margin of error.

"We're seeing nationally socialists like Bernie Sanders, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and, indeed, Congressman Beto O'Rourke advocating for those same policies", Cruz said.

"True to form", O'Rourke reacted. It will be broadcast live on NBC 5/KXAS, its website and the Dallas Morning News' website as well.

Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke denied at a Friday debate attempting to flee the scene after he crashed his vehicle in 1998 and was eventually arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The exchange quickly turned into a broader tiff over judicial nominees, with Cruz seeking to tie O'Rourke to Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, and claiming they both want judges who would effectively overturn the Second Amendment. "Vast majority of police officers are courageous, honorable, and risk their lives keeping us safe; it's wrong to smear them as racists". You may know the challenger better by the name Beto O'Rourke.

"Thoughts and prayers, Sen". She further said that no matter the poll, O'Rourke will have to woo some Republicans in order to win in November. "The people of Texas - the children of Texas - deserve action".

"The driver attempted to leave the accident but was stopped by the [witness]", a police officer wrote, according to the police report. "I think this is by design for the O'Rourke campaign, they've wanted to create that visual sense that they are making inroads in hostile territory", Wilson added. "I will pray for anyone in harm's way". "When he speaks, people take that to heart", Murphree said, calling O'Rourke's remarks "insulting to me as a citizen of this state and as a police officer".

"This goes to the heart of massive policy divisions", Mr. Cruz said, noting Mr. O'Rourke opposes Mr. Kavanaugh's nomination. Cruz called the legislation part of a pattern of O'Rourke flirting with loosening laws on illicit drugs beyond just marijuana.

Republican Cruz has used his campaign to attack his opponent for defending NFL players' right to protest police brutality during the national anthem. Nowhere in this clip does O'Rourke attack the police in general, dispute the need for effective policing, or insist that all or most officers are racist.

"Did you?" the moderator asked. Texas Rangers and the Dallas County district attorney quickly charged Guyger with manslaughter. "Imagine the cost", O'Rourke said.

But on one question in particular, Cruz tried to answer for his humiliating about-face on President Donald Trump.

When asked why fans had this image that he didn't support Democrats.

But Senator Cruz still has an edge. "I'm sorry you don't like thoughts and prayers".

Cruz also touted this year's income tax overhaul and job growth.

Cruz has criticized O'Rourke as a liberal out of touch with Texan values. The store was charged as a corporate entity, and Melissa O'Rourke was not charged as an individual.

The change in rating Friday came amid two other Senate race changes, with the prediction website changing the race for Sen.

The next two debates are scheduled for September 30 in Houston and October 16 in San Antonio. The deadline to register to vote is October 9. That is when Cruz proposed five topical debates over three months in five cities.

The May 2018 shooting at Sante Fe High School near Houston was also a hot debate issue.
