Five people were stabbed, including three infants, at a day care in New York City early Friday morning, according to police.

A sixth person was found in the basement of the day care center in the Flushing neighborhood.

Police said the suspect was in custody and taken to a local hospital after trying to kill herself.

Two girls and a boy were stabbed, and police report one of the girls is in serious condition. Their identities and ages weren't immediately released. It's unclear whether it was a legal child care facility.

A female worker at the center was stabbed eight times in the torso and a 31-year-old male who tried to stop the assaults was stabbed in the leg.

One of the adults hurt in the attack worked there, while the other was the father of one of the babies.

The incident occurred at the daycare center in the borough of Queens at about 3:30 a.m. EDT, a spokesman for New York City Police Department said.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the attack.
