HBO's record-breaking fantasy epic Game Of Thrones stormed back onto the Emmys stage on Monday, winning the coveted Best Drama Series prize on a night full of surprises, including an on-air marriage proposal that stunned the audience.

Claire Foy for The Crown wins the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series.

Borstein went 2-for-2 in this year's competition, earning an award at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month for her voice work on "Family Guy".

HBO's "Game of Thrones" was named best drama series, beating last year's champion 'The Handmaid's Tale'. "When we win a Golden Globe, it helps us sell more shoes", Bezos said at an industry conference in 2016.

She also used the opportunity to rally people to vote.

Henry Winkler, aka "The Fonz", won a supporting actor award - his first Emmy - for Barry, four decades after gaining fame for his role in Happy Days.

Saturday Night Live's Colin Jost and Michael Che host the ceremony. But it proved undeniable with 14 total nominations, the most ever for an Amazon series in a single year and second only to "Atlanta" (16) as the most nominated comedy of the year.

It wasn't the only win for Barry, the HBO comedy about a hitman who decides to take up acting, as Bill Hader won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

He said his mother had "loved" his partner, Jan Svendsen, adding: "You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend?" The Saint Ignatius College Prep grad noted that his wife refused to join him at the Emmys because she didn't want to watch him lose. The show collected eight trophies overall. "Rachel is very like her character, she was able to persevere through it, but they actually said, 'Why don't you take a little time for yourself?'"
