Furyk will announce his final captain's pick after this week's BMW Championship.

Casey, ranked No. 16, is returning to the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2008. "To be a part of this team, and now to be a player is just ... beyond special".

"I'm hoping that I'm one of them".

On a day when the temperature reached 91 degrees at TPC Boston with a heat index of 100, Bryson DeChambeau proved to be the hottest golfer on the planet.

"To be vice captain was a great experience, but to get the call and to know I'm playing is on a completely different level", Poulter said.

"I've been trying to get that week in and week out and I was able to figure something out last week on the putting green and that's kind of progressed me to move forward in the right way".

"It's an extremely strong US team", Poulter said, "but when you look at the European team on paper, I am getting goosebumps just talking about it".

"The one thing about Sergio is that he's the heartbeat of the team".

Team Europe's captain for the Ryder Cup, Thomas Bjorn, has made his all-important wildcard picks for the competition.

He, Mickelson and DeChambeau will join Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson on the squad.

The final USA wildcard looks set to go to Tony Finau.

Woods, 42, said he wouldn't object to partnering with him in foursomes (alternate shot) and four-ball (best-ball) formats in the US Ryder Cup showdown with Europe on September 28-30 at France's Le Golf National.

Poulter, who was not on the 2016 team that lost to the U.S.at Hazeltine, has never played on a losing Ryder Cup side since making his debut in 2004. "But it's a wonderful chance, an opportunity for us to do something I haven't done or been a part of in my career, and would very much like to".

There was little drama to Tuesday's announcement after DeChambeau won his second consecutive playoff event on Monday.

DeChambeau earned a spot on the team thanks to three wins this year (Memorial Tournament, The Northern Trust and Dell Technologies Championship).

"He's won three times so far under the age of 25, which is pretty impressive", Woods said on Sunday after being paired with DeChambeau. He was named an assistant captain back in January, but he wanted to play in the event.

Still, the back-to-back wins probably eliminate any doubt about the Ryder Cup team.

The eight players who qualified for Europe's team are Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Thorbjorn Olesen, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Alex Noren.
