First Trailer, Launch Date Set For True Detective Season Three

The newly released trailer for "True Detective" Season 3 promises a haunting story with a brooding Mahershala Ali on the case.

True Detective will return to HBO for its third season in January 2019.

The trailer features the first looks at Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Scoot McNairy, and Mamie Gummer in action and we also see Academy Award-winning Ali float from scene to scene as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from northwest Arkansas, who is trying to put together the pieces of a mystery. While Wayne and Roland are deeply entrenched in the case given the nature of their work, Amelia also has a surprising connection that links her to the lost kids.

HBO president Casey Bloys said at the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month that "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote four scripts ahead of filming and the network felt confident about the show's return to form. "There wasn't a fear for me". "The things I've seen. the things I know. won't do anything but cause harm". "My job, there's no certainty". Finally, he says, "I want to know the whole story".

Based on this first-look trailer, we're not so certain Wayne will ever get the information he longs for, the closure he desires, or the peace of mind he desperately needs.

There's actually a lot to be optimistic about for True Detective's third season in addition to the teaser. It wasn't. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch were all brought in and, their fault or not, they went down with the ship. True Detective lends itself very well to the anthology format, or so it appeared.
