Cristiano Ronaldo makes Juventus home debut in routine win over Lazio

Ronaldo nearly got his goal midway through the second half, only for a deflected ball to bounce back off his heel just yards from the line to tee up Mandzukic to tuck home into an empty net.

Ronaldo made his debut for Juventus in a dramatic 3-2 win over Chievo Verona, where a late goal from Federico Bernardeschi eventually settled the tie.

Ronaldo did join in the celebrations of the goal with Mandzukic and the rest of the Juve players seconds later.

Ronaldo left Real Madrid in the offseason in a Serie A record €112 million (then $132m) deal but has yet to fully adapt to Italian football.

Juventus went 2-0 up 15 minutes from time when Mandzukic was on hand to tuck into an empty net after Ronaldo made a mess of an attempt at goal.

Ronaldo came close to scoring on a number of occasions though was thwarted by some fine saves by goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

"Italian football is completely different to Spain. I'm happy with how he's fitting in, he is a very humble lad".

Lazio - fifth last season in Serie A - have had their worst start to the season in over a decade following last weekend's 2-1 defeat at home against Napoli.

Although Ronaldo would be expected to start week in week out for Juventus, something which seems more likely after Gonzalo Higuaín joined Milan, manager Allegri claims the Portugal worldwide will be forced to feature in a number of cameo appearances throughout the season.

"Yes. There will only be a few changes before the worldwide break", Allegri was quoted by Football Italia as replying to a question during Friday's press conference on whether Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic could play with the Ronaldo. "We're going to help him score goals because it is in his DNA".

"We will learn from his game".

"We know that if he scores goals it will help us win more matches". Juventus is another culture.

There were chances in the match for the Portugal captain, who netted four goals for his country in the recent World Cup in Russian Federation, but it wasn't enough to get himself a goal.
