After weeks without many rumours, the Reds have now made a serious offer of around £62m to the Serie A club for the Brazilian goalkeeper, according to the Guardian.

He has a year left on his contract and is wanted by Real Madrid.

The Mirror are reporting that Roma are looking for somewhere in the region of £66 million for the goalkeeper as they feel that Liverpool shortchanged them last summer in their purchase of Mo Salah.

Real Madrid may hold the key to the Alisson saga, with the Spanish giants interested in both the Roma goalkeeper and Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois. Florentino Pérez's interest in a new goalkeeper is no secret after high profile mistakes by Keylor Navas against Juventus and Bayern Munich last season.

German keeper Loris Karius made two blunders in the game that cost the Reds the game.

Sky sources had previously indicated Liverpool had no plans to bid for Alisson this summer, but that was earlier in the window when the Premier League believed the Brazil worldwide was going to Real Madrid.

Alisson was considered to top Liverpool's wish list, with talk of potential big-money bids doing the rounds before and during the 25-year-old's involvement at World Cup 2018.

The 28-year-old former England striker was expected to leave the club after being frozen out at Anfield last season and then made just six appearances after heading to West Brom on loan.

But sources in Italy claim that Alisson has indicated that Liverpool is his preferred destination and it would appear now that an agreement on the fee between the clubs is edging closer.
