Pixel 3 XL Leak Confirms Controversial Display Notch

There have been some reportedly leaked images and rumors of Google's upcoming phone, the Pixel 3 XL, but now it seems we have an actual prototype to look at and critique. To be specific, they will be called the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

The images were first posted on the XDA Developers forums and show off the front and rear of the alleged device. The aluminum build of the phone will stay for at least another year, with the fingerprint scanner on the back of the device.

The phone may have come out as clear as day, but there's still fog around whether the Pixel 3 XL has a glass body for its industrial design rather than polycarbonate or metal. Additionally, you can see the power button and volume rocker that are in an nearly identical position as last year's and confirmation that Google will; unsurprisingly not be bringing back the headphone jack. Another change will be the placement of the SIM card tray, which will likely be present at the bottom on Pixel 3 XL, compared to on the left on Pixel 2 smartphones. It's unclear what other storage options Google might offer. As a result there's a notch, though leaked screen protectors (of all things) suggest that the regular sized Pixel 3 will not notch the display, and will instead have a bar running along the top much like the Samsung Galaxy S9.

With Google borrowing features from HTC's latest flagship, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that the engineering talent that the firm acquired from HTC earlier this year will be heavily involved in developing the new devices. Google has its own smartphone design team just like Apple so there could be several prototypes like these hovering around the office.

Just because the phone is made of glass doesnt mean itll have wireless charging.

HTC hasn't been doing too great for the last few years, but that hasn't stopped the company from being able to produce some pretty great phones from time to time. This cutout won't be as wide as that on the iPhone X, but Bloomberg claims that it will be taller. On the top area of the screen, there is a cut out for what looks like two front-facing cameras and an earpiece.

The front of the device is very similar to the frame leak. Google is also said to be working on a third mid-segment Pixel smartphone, which is codenamed "Bonito".
