Irish-born actor Alan O'Neill died in Los Angeles this week.

He had roles in Undercovers, Inspector George Gently and Rebel Heart, as well as appearances in Strangers in the Night and Moore Street Masala. He was also set to appear in the upcoming horror film "Charlie Lives: The Family's Return".

Actor Alan O'Neill, who played the Irish mobster Hugh, has died at the age of 47, TMZ reports.

Journalist and television personality, Perez Hilton said: "So young".

O'Neill also appeared in many other projects.

"It's with sadness I confirm the passing of Alan O'Neill, a brilliant amusing and kind human being", his agent Annette Walsh writes in a statement.

His co-stars paid tribute on Twitter.

She tweeted: "Thank you for your kindness. My thoughts are with his partner, family and children at this time". News that the actor (legal name Michael Alan O'Neill) was pronounced dead at a residence in Toluca Lake, Calif. on Wednesday, June 6 at 6 p.m.

Fair City's Seamus Power, who plays Dermot on the show, said he "always enjoyed working with him". "Rest in peace old pal".
