Love left the game shaken up after he collided with Celtics rookie Jayson Tatum in the first quarter of the pivotal matchup in Cleveland, and the team announced at halftime that he would not return as they continued to evaluate him for a possible concussion.

Down 3-2 to the Boston Celtics and facing elimination, the Cleveland Cavaliers needed to show up and put forth a strong effort in front of their home crowd on Friday night.

LeBron James produced another epic playoff performance Friday as the Cleveland Cavaliers stayed alive in the National Basketball Association playoffs with a 109-99 victory over the Boston Celtics.

James, who has the highest scoring average in elimination games in National Basketball Association history at 34.1 points per game, has won his past five Game 7s, including the first round this season against the Indiana Pacers. Seventeen of those points came in the second quarter, when he made his first three 3-pointers of the game and attempted his first six free throws.

Boston was led by Terry Rozier's 28 points and Jaylen Brown who had 27. Overall, Boston was efficient, shooting 51.4 percent from the floor and also managed to convert 42.9 percent of their three-point opportunities.

Cleveland pulled ahead 38-33 in the second quarter courtesy of a 14-3 run, with a chance to add to it when James was fouled on a drive towards the basket with just over six minutes to play in the second quarter.

Those who recognize LeBron as the greatest player of all-time will have even more ammunition.

Cleveland would push its lead to as many as 14 points before settling in for a 54-43 lead at the half.

Between ill-timed 3-point attempts and turnovers, Boston slowly lost control of the game and with that, the lead.

The Cavs are saying he has not been placed in the protocol - which would require he pass a series of extensive tests to be able to play in Game 7 - because his symptoms did not trigger immediate entry into the protocol program.

Love fell to the ground after the incident and eventually rose to his feet with the help of the Cavs medical staff which did a preliminary evaluation of him on the bench. Boston was a poor 11-of-20 at the line.
