OnePlus 6 vs OnePlus 5T: Specifications, features comparison

Four years - that's how it has been since the official announcement of the OnePlus One. But does it retain the "flagship killer" title?

Today during an event in London, OnePlus took the wraps off its highly anticipated flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6. More importantly, the OnePlus 6 has alert slider located on its right side as opposed to the left side on the OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T. But more about pricing later. The OnePlus 6's dual-lane storage, based on UFS 2.1, ensures faster app loading and read/write speeds.

For power, OnePlus is including a 3,300mAh cell inside the OnePlus 6 that charges over USB-C via the company's Dash Charge technology. At the back reside the fingerprint scanner and the protruding dual camera. This area of smartphones has been a main focus point for OnePlus as of late so it should be interesting to see how they perform in the real world.

OnePlus' meticulous attention to detail is reflected in each of the OnePlus 6's color variants: Mirror Black, Midnight Black and a limited-edition Silk White.

Yup! As expected, the OnePlus 6 features a screen covering almost all of its front side, but also has a cutout at the top where the front camera and earpiece reside. You should be able to mask that area with a black background if you find it too distracting, but not until a future OxygenOS update. OnePlus 5T, on the other hand offers a 6.01-inch Optic AMOLED display with Corning's Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The resolution is 1080 by 2280 for an extra-tall 19:9 aspect ratio.

The OnePlus 6 has been officially announced, and if you've been following the leaks over the past few weeks (and months), then you know exactly what to expect. Gaming mode (previously Gaming DND mode) mutes notifications and gives higher priority to the game being played. For security, the phone packs a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and Face Unlock which, if history is any indication, should be pretty quick but not as secure as your fingerprint.

As always, the OnePlus 6 comes clean out of the box, with no bloatware preinstalled.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 6 comes with Snapdragon 845 SoC running the show which is paired with 6 or 8 GB RAM. More expensive models include 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. There's no storage expansion here, though.

If you're in the USA, you buy directly from OnePlus. A Dual SIM slot is in place for those who need it. Both have f/1.7 apertures.

OnePlus 5T itself came new changes for the OnePlus family as compared to the OnePlus 3 series. That's the theory, at least. The main shooter weighs in at 20MP while the secondary sits at 16MP. The smartphone also has a notch up top, however, it's smaller than the one on iPhone X as it doesn't house any special sensors, and is home only to the front camera, earpiece, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor.

The phone's marquee feature is, without a doubt, its 6.28-inch bezel-less display with iPhone X-style display notch. However, unlike previous year, the OnePlus 6 seems to be at par with the current trends in the smartphone industry. The 8GB+128GB and the 8GB+256GB options will be priced at $579 and $629 respectively.
